I ♥ my flist

My friends list is so full of awesome when I checked it after being asleep I have to share it with you all.

Because [info]calapine has corrected the very wrong Telegraph list of the Top 10 Greatest Doctor Who Stories. How can it be correct when there isn't a single Troughton episode??

And [info]trollprincess is looking for fantastic women in history (rarely are they well behaved).

And then there is the funniest Stolen Earth vid I've seen. There is singing to the tune of Hello, Dolly!

In short: the best "I Had To Sleep" friends list until tomorrow, when I will wake up to spoilers and summaries for the Doctor Who finale.

And now I will be heading off to watch the 1995 Pride and Prejudice while starting an Illegal Soft Toy I want to have finished by Partners in Crime tomorrow evening.
Doctor Who » Silly Old Time Lord
I should be asleep, because I keep getting cranky with all these Doctor Who fanvids set around a character I am told is still a casting spoiler despite being in every single episode of the current series of the show. I keep getting cranky because I know they'll all be Jossed (Rusted?) in a couple of days and when I expand all this bandwidth downloading a fanvid or a fanmix I want it to be relevant for more than 36 hours.

...and I'll go to bed when this current vid has finished downloading. Clearly I have little self-control or respect for bandwidth limitations right now.

Okay. Probably the only thing that would keep me on [info]regala_electra's flist when I admit that I may be laughing at the SPN finale would be me also admitting that I laughed at inappropriate moments in Voyage of the Damned, too. I am all about the inappropriate humour tonight, it seems.

(I would be yelling inappropriate things at the telly, but the rest of the house has to get up at 4.30am)

Today I caved in and, for sanity's sake, finally created a filter that cuts out only one thing: [info]doctorwho. Which is good, because my normal Sunday morning filter cuts out all communities and feeds, which would have meant I would have missed out on this announcement from Joss. I do hope everyone has watched the teaser, yes? And then there is [info]dr_horriblesing.

Note: even my not-Joss-fan friends will get something out of it, with Neil Patrick Harris being one of the stars. Yes, [info]shangri__la, I'm looking at you.

I had to vote in a by election yesterday. Blergh. The advertising campaign here was... interesting. We had a return of the buzzer ads, and a very scary anti-alcopops tax ad involving chopping wood and no indication of where he wanted us to vote. I don't want this man drinking at all! He's bloody scary!

Last night I had a dream involving Elizabeth Bennett/John Willoughby. It was a S&S/P&P crossover involving the actors from the 1995 BBC Pride & Prejudice and the Emma Thompson Sense & Sensibility, except the actor who played Willoughby alternated between Greg Wise and Joseph Beattie (who was much better as Henry Crawford than I expected). Jane Austen has completely invaded my brain! Send help!

Voyage of the Damned screens next Sunday, yay! And channel 10 has been advertising Dexter uncut as starting soon on Sundays. I'm thinking that it will probably not be up against Doctor Who at 7.30pm. But soon my Sunday TV viewing will be so full of win -- Doctor Who, Dexter and Flight of the Conchords.

I just have to get to the knitting so I can have my own illegal soft toy beside me for Partners in Crime.

I waaaaaaannnt it all!

Yeah, uh, my basket has $AU109.07 in it right now. That's me, doing my bit to help inflation. And I guess my next order from The Knittery can be pushed back a fair way...

Of course, if I could afford the $495.75 to get all the ones I'm missing, and then the postage and handling, I'd be a). in heaven, b). in possession of disposable income. And for the record, all the serials I have in my basket are from the first three Doctors.

And I'll just ignore how The X-Files is also going on sale at the same time. Or try to *whimpers*

Doctor Who hottie Billie Piper moves from TARDIS to corset, starring as Fanny Price in this surprisingly divisive made-for-TV period piece based -- loosely -- on the Jane Austen novel.
-- Cameron Adams
Here is my Big Jane Austen Confession: I totally ship Fanny/Henry Crawford. Entirely, completely, and unashamedly. And I have to say that what I have seen of Henry in the previews of Sunday's telemovie gives me little hope (nor does what we see of Sir Thomas in the preview. I know we all have to be anti-Sir Thomas, given the whole Antigua slave plantation element, but in the novel Fanny and Sir Thomas have a pretty good relationship, and the conversation about Henry's proposal really wasn't like what they have in the previews).

But Henry really wasn't the drunken slob he appears in the advertisements. At least, not the way I interpret it! And I have to say that the talk of Billie's Fanny running about etc kind of really goes against the interpretation I get from Jane Austen, with the needing horse riding for exercise and the fatigue of walking.

So to read a review where they say "based -- loosely -- on the Jane Austen novel" is something that makes me of the happy. I'll still watch it, of course, and mourn the fact that it won't really inspire me to make Fanny/Henry icons from the DVD.

Although I have to say that I enjoyed last weeks' Northanger Abbey more than I enjoy the book, which is my least favourite of all of Austen's works.

One week and one sleep until new Doctor Who, though!

p.s. Mrs Norris totally requested a transfer via Jurisfiction and wound up in Harry Potter.

Microsoft Office 2007 can go fuck itself. I am thisclose to throwing a computer out a window. "Intuitive" my arse. I hated it in beta stage, and now that Papa Smurf is using it, I hate it even more (as does Papa Smurf).

I've been watching Davros episodes of Who of late. Genesis of the Daleks took a day and a half. Resurrection of the Daleks took a single day. So far the first serial in Revelation of the Daleks has taken about a week. I am very close to saying "screw this for a joke" and skipping it. I AM A SIX HATER AND THAT MAKES ME BAD.

21 sleeps until new Who on the ABC!

Mama Smurf received seasons one and two of Robin Hood for her birthday. Guy remains sexy brooding and damn evil, and Munch is the best of them all. Not just because he is played by Patrick Troughton's grandson.

This is just the most crack-like show. spoilers for the end of season two )

I'm just looking forward to Richard Armitage joining the cast of a certain TV show (which I will not mention as I don't know if the fans of said show on flist like casting spoilers). If the ABC will ever screen it when it happens.

I am reading the most hi-larious thing, ever. Jack Harkness, married. In a monogamous relationship. I am falling off my seat. It probably helps that said girl is Dawn Summers. Who doesn't remember anything. I don't know if I'm meant to find it as funny as I do. Probably not.

This is good because New Who squee is depressing me, since I can't see teh awesome of Moffat. At least the ABC is starting the new series sooner than later. 29 June, hurrah! 28 sleeps to go.

Oh, it makes me so very happy.

My batshit, let me show you it )

All in all, it makes me abuse caps. Steven Moffat: bringing the crack with a side-serve of wank.

Intellectually, I know Genesis of the Daleks is a brilliant episode. I fully appreciate the arc and the importance of the serial. I just really, really struggle to watch the damn thing. Even with the giant clam.

Ah, well, I'll just admire Sarah Jane's jumper some and try and work out the knitting pattern :p

I am currently doing a one-person conga to the chant of "Moffat Moffat Moffat!" My reaction is much like that when I realised I had the Ultimate Day of Fangirling a few years back. I have loved Mr Moffat since before I knew anything about anyone from behind the camera, and he provided me with an early OTP.

Maybe having more than one episode/arc by him per year will dilute the grandness. I don't care. Moffat Moffat Moffat!

I got online to find that someone I always wanted to be closer to was killed in a hit-run. You know when you're already not going too well in the brain chemical stakes, that is really... not of the good. Not that it is ever of the good. But even less of the good. And my God, could I be more self-centred.

Save Hiatus ([info]save_hiatus) was nice and distracting, though, even if I kept jarring myself out of it.

Today I purchased TV Week for the first time in years. It had Kane and Kirsty on the front cover, and nothing sucks me in more than old Home and Away alumni coming back -- of course, the last time I purchased the magazine it was because Chloe was coming back, and then they killed her off within weeks, so I won't actually be watching Home and Away this time around. Just... wasting my money on magazines. Although it did give me a bit more of a Eurovision schedule, so that was worth it (now to decide between the Eurovision final and The Shadow in the North...).

Distractiony things, yes.

Since my review of Twilight would basically be this comic, I feel compelled to tell my flist that [info]cesario is holding a Young Adult Vampire Novel Contest. I, for one, cannot wait to read the finished products -- and I can think of several people I would really like to be in the fun.

*uses her own I'm-recovering-dammit OTP icon that could probably fit into the contest quite happily*

I... am very much out of the fandom loop at the moment. I haven't really been getting online enough to read the flist properly, and so I've been filtering out anything from a community or feed. To the point that I didn't know about the Doctor Who knitting controversy (damn you, BBC, and I can't find a cached version of the Ood pattern anywhere!) until Papa Smurf mentioned having seen it on various news websites. I also have managed to avoid any and all wanks over the most recent Doctor Who episode.

Edited: Although from what [info]mazzmatazz just posted in the Who Knits community on Ravelry things might be looking up at last!

I feel so far out of the loooooop. The only way to make me feel better has been to re-read Buffy/Aragorn fanfiction shut up I love it far too much and making new playlists in iTunes.

I have a lovely way of coping.

Although: I have discovered that while re-reading epic crossovers it is entirely possible to knit entire garments. You might lose track of rows and stitches and wind up with a rather lopsided garment, but it is possible!
